This selection of paintings from an ongoing series capture moments of pleasure and pain within alternative sexualised contexts. They evoke the tradition of European religious paintings where depictions of agony and ecstasy are commonplace - except in Marks' work, there may be no place for God.

The gridded format of his paintings mirrors the pixelated nature of the digital images on which they are based. These images are commonplace on websites and social media yet are often marginalised or censored.

The transposing of digital images to paint creates a low-resolution "lens" through which to view them and triggers our curiosity. The viewer may respond or close down to whatever becomes apparent, but it should be seen as a metaphor for the dichotomy of pleasure and pain that perhaps exists in us all ?
